EDITORIAL REVIEW >>

When the first AcidJazz albums were released in the U.K. end of the 80's, nobody was able to predict that this sound was to influence the future music scene. Too many times did new hypes and trends disappear after only a few months. Not so with AcidJazz everything was different with this sound. Gradually an overall interest spread throughout Germany a new type of Jazz inspiration and fusion, far beyond the traditional idea. The new Crossover sound was found by Darius Gall and Horst Jungbauer Dr. Young in the early 90's.

Darius Gall has already won several awards as composer, arranger and musician in his homecountry Poland. Before working as a studio musician in London during 1989 1992, he played in different formations throughout Poland and Germany. A severe car accident in England was the cause for a longer break and the return back to Germany. His first contact to Horst Jungbauer was at the Studio Z, where Horst was recording his debut CD "Crew Of Two". Horst Jungbauer was working with local Beat ; Jazz and Guitarbands and was recording special Rap tapes for discotheques. During the remixing of "Crew Of Two", they came to share eachothers enthusiasm for AcidJazz.

During the summer of 1993, the first recordings and remixes were made with VIBEMARES. The title "Wildcat" was first heard on a sampler from a local radio station and was later released on a EP with several remixes. The productions took in position 22 in the German Dance Charts and had an overall good airplay.

The work on "Sit Back & Relax" started in the beginning of January 1995. The basic concept was developed by Darius Gall. Together they engaged several guest musicians, to bring the concept to life; this included Sekou, rapper with The Phleow, DJ Friction, Claus Stötter playing the trumpet and Hans Martin Eberhardt with the saxophone. It took them more than 14 months to finish the production "Sit Back & Relax".

Many different influences and mixed styles, make the 13 songs on CD 1 very unique. The opener "No More Crying" is a very dancefloor oriented soul track with forceful rhythm and hookline. The song with hit potential is, the soft AcidSoul track "Impression Of Serenity". Memory of the heydays of Level 42 are brought back by the groove song "Delight". A little bit of Miles Davies is in "Schizophrenic Hunger" TripHop oriented Jazz with a piano solo a lࡠHerbie Hancock explains us Horst Jungbauer. The title track "Sit Back & Relax" is a Hip Hop Crossover, in which a Blues Harp and a variety of african drums are used. It is the use of such unusual instruments as also heard in the song "It Makes You Wanna Move" that encourage VIBEMARES to go on in this interesting territory.
